Comacchio:
History, Nature and Culture
|
Comacchio is the pearl of Po Delta Park. Born at begin of the
Middle Age on little islands of Po Delta's River, the lagoon-city
have had a big commercial evolution. Fishing, manufactured articles,
salt and commerce, are the most spread human activities and
economical resources. In the 1600, under political direction
of the Pope, Comacchio have a great relevance in the area. The
land reclamation and the architectural's renaissance are the
most important thing thath the "Stato Pontificio"
have create.
Only after the second world war, the growth of Comacchio have
had the most important results upon the fishing and the other
economical sectors.
Between the most important monument, we remember:

i Trepponti ; the bridge,
builded on 1634 on design of Luca Danese (architect and enginer),
is located on confluence of 5 rivers. Characterized by 5 stairs
and 2 towers. On base of the south-stairs you can find the ancient
"Pescheria".

Interely builded with briks, l'Antica Pescheria was the most
important place where may be find the comacchian aels.

20 metres from Antica Pescheria, you can find la Bottega
di Comacchio® just in the heart of the lagoon. To
complete an excursion to Comacchio, are important a little break
to the Bottega di Comacchio; in this place, you can find all
the tipycal products and wines of Po Delta Park. D.O.C Wines
of Bosco Eliceo, the traditional cakes and marinated aels, sardines,
anchovy, cuttle-fish and the others marinated local fish.

Another important monument is San Camillo Palace;
nearby Trepponti.
Builded on the second half XVIII sec. from Cardinal Francesco
Carafa on project of Cosimo Morelli, was an ancient hospital
with a little church called San Pietro characterized by two
towers.
On the itinerary can find the beautiful San Cassiano Cathedral
: etablished in three aisles (latin cross) is completed by characteristic
tower.
Between other important monuments we remember Bellini's
Palace , nearby Palazzo San Camillo and the bridge Ponte
degli Sbirri. Builded in the second half of 1800, was the home
one of most important Comacchian's family. Today is are a municipal
representative office.

(XVII sec.), is composed by 142 arches and connect the city
center with the Santuario di Santa Maria in Aula Regia (1100).
